To me the outdoors is a time to relax, explore, unwind and recharge. It is also a great to share the outdoors with your children and/or friends. I try to leave the technology behind, except maybe for the portable DVD player, so that I can focus on the experience.
I like tent camping as it seems to be closer to nature and “roughing it. However I have a blow up mattress, and an eight person tent.
I love the sounds of the wind in the woods and the forest. The sounds of the frogs and crickets at nice and a plethora of birds in the morning. It is relaxing and soothing. If fishing are in the plans that’s an added bonus. My favorite is White Bass fishing in the spring when they are “running”. Formerly, I’d slay a bundle in late April up by Lake Maumee. White Bass are great “eating.” You can grill them or fry them in light batter. A good sweet fish.
The other highlight of camping is exploring and hiking. Enjoying the nature and scenery. If you have a horse planned in the trip that is a treat. To ride a horse through the trails and camp with your horse for an early sunrise ride is simply outstanding.
The additional highlight is the famous campfire for grilled food, and s’mores. There is nothing like food cooked over an open fire, especially fresh fish. (Of course I have the portable grill for cooking as well.) At night there is something very solace and relaxing with the dancing flames and crackling logs of a campfire.
To me there is nothing better then leave the business and over technology driven life behind for a few days or a week into the great outdoors.
Do you like camping? What is your favorite campgrounds or national forest? What are your best memories?
